Residency Programs

  • Weaving 101

    $500 - $900 per week sliding scale

    Monday-Friday 9A-3P one-on-one instruction. This residency is ideal for folks wanting to start their own weaving practice. The one-two week course will cover the basics of yarn selection, warping, loom mechanics, and introductory to intermediate weaving techniques. Residents can expect to leave with one large sampler.

  • Independent

    $350 - $550 per week sliding scale

    This residency is ideal for seasoned weavers who simply need time, space, and solitude to work. Optional meetings with Kimberly including studio visits and family dinners are available upon request. Residents must provide examples of woven work in order to be considered for an Independent Residency.

  • Project Based: Natural Dye Painted Warp Double Cloth

    $1300 - $2100 sliding scale
    2 weeks, material included

    Intermediate: Some weaving experience recommended

    Monday-Friday 9A-3P one-on-one instruction as needed. This residency will cover double weave blocks, various natural dyes (local when seasonally available), warp painting, and finishing a textile. Residents can expect to leave with a completed, ready-to-hang warp painted double cloth wall-hanging.

  • Project Based: Coverlet

    $1750 - $2550 sliding scale
    3-4 weeks, material included

    Intermediate: Some weaving experience recommended

    Monday-Friday 9A-3P one-on-one instruction as needed. This residency will cover overshot basics, modifying a pattern, sizing and panel weaving, and finishing a functional textile. Residents can expect to leave with a completed functional 2-3 paneled coverlet, throw-size to queen-size depending on experience, timing, pace, and preference.

Payment

Please see the sliding scale amount for your desired residency. Tiers of the scale are laid out on our 2025 application.

Partial payment (half of residency fee) will be due at time of booking (once you receive an official acceptance email and confirm dates, submit waiver, and contract) and the other half will be due a week before your residency.

Travel

Please plan to rent a car or provide your own means of transportation while in residence.

If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent you from driving safely or restrict you from renting a car, please contact us.

Tabby Studio

Tabby Studio is located in Canton, North Carolina. The residency house is 1B1B with a full kitchen and large studio space.

On the property, there is a private gravel driveway for residents, a garden, on-site laundry, and a shared patio.

Residents have full access to the property and are encouraged to make themselves at home.

Canton, North Carolina

Canton is a small, rural town about twenty minutes west of Asheville. A quaint, historic paper mill town, Canton is full of Appalachian character and picturesque beauty.

Tabby Studio is located in a valley situated between the Big Butt (yes, really) and Rocky Face mountains, about ten minutes from downtown Canton. The semi-private road that Tabby is on is walkable, but mountainous.
